Meet the Makers
Avdar began in 2016 when Evgeny and Lulu became parents for the first time. Like so many parents, they began to think carefully about the products that they brought into their home. Evgeny, who is originally from Russia, and Lulu, who hails from Mongolia, had always been interested in woodworking. They began to design and build their own wooden toys for their young son with lots of love and care. And so, Avdar Toys was born.
We share a very similar story with Evgeny and Lulu, having got our start refurbishing previously loved wooden toys after the birth of our son in 2017. It was a natural fit for us to reach out and become Canada's exclusive retailer of Avdar's spectacular collection of stackers, blocks, playscape materials and so much more.
The Philosophy
Every Avdar toy is designed with open-ended freedom and minimalism in mind. One simple and beautiful toy can replace five others; a decluttered play area can become even more inspiring to a developing mind. Every step of the production process is performed by hand, from the selection and cutting of the different woods to the finishing touches. Avdar uses non-toxic, food-grade paints and finishes, and every product has been tested to meet international ASTM toy safety standards.
