"We believe that Playing, Learning and Experiencing is an attitude rather than a matter of age."
Sven und Elke Grimm
We are a family owned and sustainably managed manufacturer at the foot of the Swabian Alb, which produces beautiful things made of wood, as well as natural, high quality and safe wooden toys made to officially certified standards. We design durable wooden toys whose minimal design leaves much room for the development of the child’s creativity. In this way, new fantastic play worlds emerge, keeping pace with the child's development.
product development, we are guided by the principles of Waldorf education and other educational approaches, such as Montessori
We call it "the special charisma": wood is expressive, refined through the passing of time: it is so robust that it stays with us a long time.
Wood is aesthetically beautiful: it tells the story of nature and life. When its journey through the generations comes to an end, it is able to be recycled back into nature.
"The Route is the Goal. Confucius taught us this, and this is precisely the point of childlike play.
When we provide our children with ready-made play and adventure worlds, which are worked out to the smallest detail, we take away the opportunity for them to develop their own creativity.
From the design point of view, we make sure to keep the playing possibilities as open as possible, so that creativity is not restricted, and can develop in new directions.
Children and adults alike are attracted by the brilliant colours and beautiful uncoated wood surfaces. The bright colour glaze and plant oils preserve the living surface of the wood in structure and feel. The result is a typically rough and yet velvety wooden surface, which contributes to a greater play value, especially for building material, because the individual pieces do not slip off so easily. We use glazing colours and vegetable oil for our products. Our colour bubbles are water-based, non-toxic and saliva-fast. Of course, all colours and oils are certified according to the European toy safety standard (EN 71).
What we believe in
In our opinion, children's toys are not just about kids being busy, that is, having something to do. Above all, it is important to us that they receive toys that are appropriate to their age and development. The imagination of the children should be stimulated and this will help develop the creative potential that can be available to a person throughout their entire life. Beautiful, artistically crafted, quality toys, made of natural materials also promote a sense of beauty and an understanding of quality. We consider this important in our "disposable society."
We love wood because it‘s a natural material which will always have various markings that show up in our products, making each one unique. Grimm’s toys are always one a kind, carrying unique marks made by nature. Wood grain has changing structures and colors which serve as proof of its natural origins. The unique variations are proof of quality, not defects. Discover the markings that make your Grimm's toy simply unique!
If you want to remove dirt from our products, simply wipe gently with a damp cloth and a little soapy water (if necessary). When drying, please do not place on the heater, otherwise, cracks may occur in the wood. Please allow to dry at room temperature. Please never clean our toys with disinfectant, hot water or similar.
All colours and oils we use are certified in accordance with the EN 71 and CPSIA/ASTM 963 standards. They are therefore recommended for use on children’s toys and are harmless to the health of your child or baby. Any discoloration, for example due to intensive contact with saliva, is extremely rare and harmless and poses no health risk to babies, toddlers or adults.
Our colours are non-toxic, water-based stains and we oil our wood products with a mix of different natural oils with linseed oil as the main ingredient. This blend consists of linseed oil, olive oil, thistle oil, walnut oil and soybean oil.
We love animals - that's why our products are vegan and of course free of animal testing.
